This summer Lexa paints almost everyday. I finally just started leaving her paints out ready on the table.

Napkin Hats

When Lexa sets the table, she likes to fold the napkins. She folded and taped them this time. Will said they were hats, of course.

A package from Granddad

The kids got a package today, chalk board globes and a big box of chalk for each of them, from Granddad. 

Will had Patrick draw his face and Will's face. Then Will added legs. He's finally more interested in drawing a little bit lately.

Lexa drew rings of different zones around hers: lava, rock and water.

Timmy made his into a fantasy world inspired by one of Patrick's games. It included an "ethereal island." He continued it into some big banner paper with his chalk as well.

It'll be fun to take some of the chalk to the park and draw on the pavements there. I'll keep some stashed in the car I think for impromptu sidewalk art. :)

I think there was a world map in the box too. Will really loves maps. He keeps walking around with it, pointing at places and saying, "Where's dat?" And then, "Otay, we go to Trussia?"

Timmy also started listing off places he wants to go: Washington again, South America!, California, Madagascar, Arkansas, Utah I think maybe he said?, Greenland, Australia!, Canada, and China, but then he said we'd probably need to learn Chinese first. He said he wants to go places without big cities, like Mt Rainier Park was.

River Rock Painting

 I tried to take the kids to a rock painting activity at Garner State Park, but we didn't make it there in time, so we brought some rocks home and painted them ourselves.

Why did I put a towel down again?  These tempura paints wipe up really quick and easy with a wet towel though, just hopefully they won't get their painted rocks wet because they'll wash off easy too!

Flower Pounding with Grandmom

Flower pounding craft with Grandmom to make prints on fabric. It's so neat that Grandmom gets to share her creativity with the kids. Lexa really loved this.

Timmy's Robot

Timmy wanted to build something out of his collection of parts from broken toys. I showed him how to use a hot glue gun for the first time. He loved it.

Lexa's Drawings

Lexa has started drawing pictures of people. She really loves drawing. To her aspirations of being a princess ballerina when she grows up she's added and also an artist.

She really likes tracing her hand and making handprints. She can write her name now too. She always puts lots of lines on her E's.

Lexa Draws

Lexa really loves to draw. She draws at some point every day. It's one of her favorite things to do. She also gets out the water colors and paints a lot. She's learning letters at preschool, and she's really into writing letters now as well. She's doing really well and is learning them quickly. She's always giving everyone pictures she's made and bringing us pictures home from preschool.

Masked Lexa

Auntie Sara came over to our house for dinner one Sunday. We had grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, and macaroni and cheese and also apples dipped in caramel. We made apple crumble for dessert. Sara also brought over a mask making craft, and she made her deer mask for her Halloween costume. Lexa made a deer mask too.

Knitting Fall 2010

Now that we're getting into fall, at least in name, not temperature. (It was 98 today) I've pulled put the knitting again and have been really enjoying knitting away. It's easy to pick up and toss down all the time. I've only had the stitches pulled out a few times, and the children are getting used to it, so are less interested in tangling up the yarn. I finished a knit dress for Lexa already and have started a sweater to go with it. I also have big plans to make a sweater vest for Timmy, a cardigan and leg warmers for Lexa and winter hats for each of them before spring. I love our quiet nights with Lexa. It's really nice to sit and knit while Patrick and I watch a show after Timmy's in bed.
