Lexa loves going to her new preschool now. It didn't start off that way though. We chose a Montessori school first, that turned out not to be a very good one. The director was shady and not straight with us and then we saw that the children were not well supervised and hurting each other. As excited as I was about Montessori, that place wasn't a good one. So we decided to put her in the Elgin ISD preschool here instead. They have a preschool inclusion class with the special education preschoolers that children of school district employees can join. It was hard for Lexa because on top of the move and having to go to a new school, she only went to that one for a few awful days in which she didn't even stay in the same classroom before we pulled her out. Then only a few days later this one started up, and she had to go to yet another new preschool. She cried for me and clung to me, and didn't join in playing with the other children or talk much at school for weeks. It was worse than last year when she had some separation anxiety and had never been away from me at all. She wanted to go to her old preschool from last year that was so great and "didn't like the new Ms. Casares." After a few weeks she started feeling better about it. She started playing and singing and joining in. Now she loves it. She talks about her friends all the time, practices writing the letters and counting she's learning, wants to go everyday and go in early. The day she had the stomach flu and stayed home the first thing she said is that she wanted to go to school and didn't want to miss seeing her friends at school. I'm disappointed it's not the Montessori I was interested in, but it seems to be very good conventional public school preK program. She should have a head start in kindergarten next year and she's learning alot about how school works and getting alot out of it socially. I'm glad she's happy there.
